Tire Pressure

Post by westy78socal » Fri Feb 02, 2007 2:25 pm

Just wondering about optimal tire pressure. My tires say 44 psi but thats a max, just wondering if there's much difference depending on the tire you use.

Get a tire crayon and make a stripe across the tread. take a short ride and check the wear. If the stripe is worn off in the middle to much air, worn off on the edges not enough. Keep trying till it wears fairly evenly across the tread. You can also load up all your gear and people that you take camping and do the same for a full load air pressure.

35f/45r for Shwaub LT tires seems pretty good, a little harder of a ride but good control. When I got new tires that's what they used and I like it.

Im at 44R and 34F on Cooper SRMII tires and the ride seems solid.
I'm all out of ideas and I've tried nothing.

I run Michelin 205 75 14 Harmonys.
They do have my minimum requirement of 2 sidewall plies.
I still respect Michelin's construction quality.

I run 48-50 for the rears and about 42-45 for the front tires. The Hankook's really ride well at those pressures and I never get tossed off the road by a gust anymore. :blackeye:
