You mean the pad shims? Are you kidding? Did you swallow that? Did you ask for an example of a failure? Liability? What the f%@k happens when they sell you a drag link or a steering box??????
Who were they?

yup. Bustedbus were the ones that said they don't sell any used brake parts, period. It wasn't that it was these pad shims specifically. the rep I was speaking to went on to say he re-uses his own without thinking about it, but their official stance was that you should always buy new parts for the brake system when they are available.

I knew it was BS, and im pretty sure the guy I was talking to at the time also felt the same, but rules is rules and I needed something ASAP.

Ken Madson at the busco was happy to sell me a set though, so if anyone needs them, that's where id check first next time. .

airkooledchris wrote:that said, if you need a set, I certainly don't NEED a spare set since you can re-use them, and would sell them for the same price.
I'll buy em'. Mines running without them.

I got some from Chris/busted, so that is cool with me.

Maybe he got sued or threatened? Who knows. Seems silly, it is just stamped steel to prevent the piston from rotating....maybe I got them from ken at busco...I am getting old. :pale:

As for the super blue brake fluid, I did it because Ratwell said so. more specifically it made it really easy to know when your done bleeding, as once you see blue, your done!
Next time ill use regular colored fluid for the opposite effect, then back to blue. they also happened to sell the blue ATE fluid where I picked up my motive power bleeder adapter...
Good idea. I must forgotten about the blue die. The brake fluid that was in my lines when I bought the bus was so dirty, it wasn't hard to know when the old stuff was flushed out. But I'll try and remember the colored brake fluid next time...I wonder if food coloring would work?

Not intending to hijack this post but I am getting ready to do a complete brake job myself.
I sent an email to the guy in Beaverton inquiring about NOS parts but in the time being I was curious about the items GoWesty sells.
Brembo Front Brake Discs $48.02
Meyle front brake hose $9.68
Meyle right rear hose $8.13
Meyle left hose $9.72
Meyle rear wheel cylinder $8.93
Meyle Front pad set $23.72
Enduro Rear brake shoe set $28.03

Are these brands and prices good? Free shipping over $50.00.
Thanks
Mike

I've used the Meyle hoses with no complaints. Can't comment on the other items.

I've had no problem with Enduro shoes over the years. Rotors would be hard to mess up, especially for Brembo. Sure, sh*t happens but they don't get Porsche contracts by making garbage...

I've had the Brembos on mine for years. No problems.

Thanks guys for the replies,
Sounds like I will go with the hoses and the rotors
So the Meyle rear wheel cylinder for $8.93, give it a try or do you recommend another brand?
GoWesty also had these brands,
Ate $18.27
TRW $12.20
KMM $5.08
I also forgot to ask,
If I should need rear drums, GoWesty has OMC PT #VWA016935 for $41.00.
Thanks again
Mike

I personally go for ATE with the brake stuff, but keep us updated on how the Meyle's perform.

You can get Rebuilt ATE brake calipers & cylinders at O'Reilly Auto Parts. Been very happy with mine.
