I met a Guru (aka Colin)

Post by WaterDawg » Fri Oct 04, 2013 11:15 am

So just about 2 months ago now I got bit by a bug...or rather bus :D

Not long after that I discovered a fellow Westy fan 45 minutes from me and I reached out to him.
I invited Tim up to the lake and he stopped by one day with his bus. He gave my family and I a ride and if I wasn't already, I was hooked after that. He even let me drive it :bounce:

Not long after our meet up, Tim began helping me as I continued my search for a Westy and it was around then he told me about this Guru guy they call Colin. He also told me Colin would be working on his bus in October. Well, how does one pass up an opportunity to meet a Guru? I sure could not and I asked if I could come over and help them work on the bus.

Yesterday was THAT day. The day I got to meet Colin and the day I got to crawl through the guts of the bus and learn from a Master.
Now the last time I had crawled under a vehicle for enjoyment was some 27 years ago. I've crawled under plenty of cars, truck and motorcycles since, but not for enjoyment. Not with the eyes of a 15 yr old crawling under his first car and getting his hands greasy.

So there I was guided by Colin, tearing into a bus that belonged to someone I just met. And at the end of a long day, I had even more appreciation for this vehicle, I had more desire to acquire my very own and more encouragement that I can - despite rumors to the opposite - travel the country in this bus as I had done on my motorcycle.

I now look forward to a day where I can watch Colin evaluate my bus and give me a first hand education on it as much as I look forward to a day where I can pilot my own bus down the back roads of America.

Thank you Tim for the opportunity.
Thank you Colin for the knowledge.

That is a nice looking Westy in there.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue, I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod, The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

He is travelling the country and learning along the way.
See? He sees. He decides. He conquers.
