Itinerant Air-Cooled

A couple of our boys are missing in the Antarctic. As of Friday evening, rescuers are still awaiting a break in the weather so they can access the site of the downed Twin Otter on the Antarctic ice cap. Whiteout conditions and winds in excess of 170 kph have so far hampered search efforts.

This is the same Calgary-based operator that performed an emergency rescue of a doctor from the South Pole a few years ago - an operation that was at that time declined by the US Air Force.

The reports don't sound too good for survival, but it will be very interesting to hear the reason they flew into a mountain :scratch


One coment I read said that many accidents are taking place because of faulty sat/nav problems.
Peter have you any info on that?

Thanks, Elwood. It was the first thing I checked on the news this morning. It's a sad day for Canadians.

As Barb says, the crash site has been inspected by air and determined "not survivable". No reason for the accident has been as yet determined, but in that environment any error of any kind is not likely to be forgiven.

As was earlier reported, "winds in excess of 170 kph". Incredible.
