At first I'm thinking "Now that is the very definition of freakishly poor engineering."

To be honest I'm pretty sure they just tried the "most robust" suspension system - name solid axle and leaf springs - and it totally backfired.
I'd also bet that they also didn't quite do their homework...

Total piece of crap. Axle tramp can easily enough be tamed. That looks like a 1940's Cadillac under there. Yech. The fact that the suspension mounting points tore off under braking?!?

Hm... Very true. Oh well, hopefully the boys won't have to deal with that.
