Lost my old best friend today....

Post by Bleyseng » Thu Aug 09, 2012 10:10 am

In a fog as one of my old best friends died yesterday. This is a son of a single alcoholic mother who became a baker opening several bakeries around the West Coast. His last was in PT, WA and was voted the best bakery in the USA in 2010.
He knew he was dying so he gave all shares of the company to all the employees so they owned it and could continue without him. He just didn't need money in his life it wasn't important, people were.

Gonna miss him big time..

Sorry Bleyseng. That's hard. He must have been an artist to be such a baker.

I'll post the bakery blog so if anyone goes to Port Townsend they can stop in.

Yes, 40 plus years baking bread and other goodies but in his heart he was a artist not just a baker. His baked goods are fantastic and he always loaded me down with a bag to take home to enjoy.

Crap news indeed. Sorry for the pain, Bleyseng. But his generosity of spirit lives on. A lesson to us all, eh? Heck of a legacy, you ask me.

Very sorry to hear that but the story is at least as inspiring as it is sad.

I didn't think I would add to this thread so soon, but ...

My friend Don Clarke died yesterday of myeloma. He was the one who got me interested in hang gliding and gave me my first lessons in 1974. I was working for the Baltimore City Health Department at the time but found the new sport so exciting that I quit that job and spent the next twenty years in the hang gliding industry as an instructor, sailmaker, test pilot, designer, shop foreman, etc.

There's not many people of whom you could say "that person changed my life."

Don changed my life.

Yeah, I'll add some more as the memorial was last Sunday for my dear friend. Really nice with 250 folks showing up but my highlight was to sit down and talk to his 34 yr old son for 15 minutes about his father and the man he was. I could say "that person changed my life" too and I tried to get that point across to his son.

Last night we lost another Uncle in Suriname too as he was suffering from cancer. I'll miss him but I am glad that he isn't suffering anymore. It was really hard on him the last few months!
