Looking for some acoustic music

Post by RussellK » Tue Jul 10, 2012 7:27 am

Anyone know who plays some relaxing acoustic tunes without lyrics? I love the bluegrass but it seems like every cd I have is a mixed bag with nice easy picking followed by frenzy. I'm tired of my folk tunes too. I don't want music that makes me think too hard.

I love Michael Hedges. Aerial Boundaries is a good record.

Iv'e always enjoyed Bob Dylan's soundtrack to Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid. It's mostly instrumental, cept for "Knockin' on Heaven's Door".

For a moment I thought acoustic was along the same lines as instrumental. Was about to suggest all kinds of electronic stuff, 'cept it finally connected. :)

Check out William Ackerman "It Takes a Year." Very serene and relaxing, and if the first time you ever heard it was years ago in a rustic little cabin in the far north woods of Minnesota, it can take you to places you haven't visited in quite a while.

"Jazz Samba". Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd. If I was marooned on a desert island with only one CD, that'd be it. Guaranteed reeeeeeeelax.

It's not acoustic, but I find Yo La Tengo's "They shoot, we score" to be very relaxing.

Check Willie and Lobo; you can find them online at http://www.willieandlobo.com/
I have only one CD: "Caliente" so can't speak for the rest, but I sure like that one.

Anything by the Modern Jazz Quartet....The Gene Harris Quartet...the Ray Brown Trio.. Milt Jackson's Opus de Jazz is a good place to start. N-Joy and happy listening.

Dave Grisman made a couple of non-lyric albums I like, if you want to stick with bluegrass.

Something from the World Music section I like is Deep Forest (1992 Celine Music). Lots of percussion. There are some vocals, mostly chanting in foreign tongues.

The percussionist Brent Lewis is interesting.
