Yeah, there's been a bunch of good parts taken off that rig. Sluggo got the rear seat/bed out of it, I swiped the sliding slider-door window and solid rear glass from the passenger side, MissZora got the engine, Joseph got the poptop tent, Morgoon in Canada should have the Dakota Digital CHT by now 'cuz I sent it Priority Mail...

I got a set of wing windows from the *other* '77 that's in the yard right now because the knobs aren't broken, which also enabled MissZora to get the window regulator she needs. Also grabbed the inner scrapers and stainless AutoVentshades that were on it. Like these:

OK, just got off the phone with the previous owner, James.
Please share the information about his pop-top kit - he says he needs beer money. :-)
See Hal's link above.

The exhaust is custom - designed by a Porche guy and built by Daryl's Economy Mufflers. However, they won't work on them any more. The engine doesn't have points but has Pertonics (?) because one or some of the points came off after a long road trip (The Steens Mountains). He said it was running great and the only thing that had changed is that the oil light stays on about a second longer than it used to when you first start the engine. He noticed that after the Steens trip.

As far as the logging truck accident, they were moving when it hit them and his wife was in the hospital for two days. The dog had a few scratches. Essentially, the bus saved their lives. I invited him to the Lab - he said he'd try to be there on the 25th. I'll be there, too. Gotta teach a hoop class tonight.

Damn, and I *just* sent something out on type2@type2.com and wetwesties to find the guy after several fruitless searches through their archives. No Pertronix on that engine anymore, the distributor's gone. Not a huge loss IMO, saw waaay too many failed Pertronix come back when I used to work parts for me to trust those things...

Back is fine, wish I could say the same for my sinuses. Wish we could get decongestants in this state that ACTUALL WORKED without a f#$king prescription. I started coming down with something last night.

Yeah, I did notice the distributor was missing.
Try eating local honey, Willamette or Tualatin Valley probably - it's supposed to get you used to the pollen in the area.

Recommended to me on Facebook:
You should try to find the distributor/ignition module/coil off of a early 2.0L aircooled vanagon. Much hotter spark than the pertronix and dumb magnet wheel. The early vanagon one uses a windowed wheel for spark signal.
Anyone have a lead on one of these? ;-)

Found one in Seattle! What do you think a decent price would be for one? I haven't asked him yet.
Thanks again gang!

Yeah .. my garage. :cyclopsani: That setup is actually '79-'83 California-spec 2.0 aircooled. The '83.5-'85 Vanagon WBX stuff works too, but the advance curve is slightly wrong.

Less wrong than an 009 though.

Hal, you are one of the nicest dudes around - CHEERS TO HAL FOR BEING ONE 1st CLASS GUY!!! =D> =D>

Good to hear the occupants didn't get hurt too bad.

Don't s'pose those tail lenses are nice Hella ones are they? Sure would like to get a good set. Mine are garbage aftermarket replacements - all yellow'ed out with little micro-cracks.

The tail light lenses are gone from both buses. Sorry. But at least I saved you a trip! ;-)

They were still on the Westy when we left; I woulda snagged them if I'd thought anyone needed 'em.

Push come to shove, I think Antonio Trejo has new Hella/VW de Mexico assemblies available. Spendy, but way better than the aftermarket junk being shoved down our throats by most of the vendors. Just Kampers has Genuine VW rear lenses available but they're £22.50 each plus shipping from the UK...

edit: or $24.95 from BusDepot
