Heater Box Riser Tube - Correct Mounting?

Now that the warm weather is here, I'm in the final stages of replacing the missing heat system components on my bus. The final piece to install is the left-side heat control box and its corresponding heat riser tube. My question is - does the heat riser tube flange fit 'between' the two engine tins as seen here:
OR is it mounted 'above' the upper engine tin as seen here:
It seems that it should be mounted above the tin instead of in-between. If in-between, there would be a small gap betwixt the upper and lower tins - causing some loss of air from the cooling fan. I consulted the Bently and did not see any photos that helped answer my question.
Any help would be appreciated.
