Barn find in Suriname

Post by Bleyseng » Fri Nov 04, 2011 3:34 am

Went to a guy's house and there in the carport is a decent double cab Vanagon truck. Of course the motor is blown up due to the owner's driving style I'd say after I talked to him about it. (never used first gear and never changed the oil)

I do have my eye on a running VW truck if I can get it for a good price.....there are 4 of em here that I know of.

..running?

Slap a Subaru in there. Or a Bostig Zetec. Or an inline VW 4-cylinder, TDI if there's diesel available, gasser if not.

In any case, if it's fairly solid (from a rust standpoint) ship it to the US when you come back.

Wow a DC Vanagon! Heck get it just to, get it! We all would!

I'll swing by and test drive the green TDI one next week and check its condition. If its decent I might buy it to have a second car here and maybe ship it back to Seattle. I have always wanted a DC.

If you can get the DC above for next to nothing, can you ship it to Savannah GA? I can go pick it up.

Oh wow, I read the article, those look so cool, drop that in Vanagon and get 200,000 miles at least.

You guys crack me up. There are no Subaru's let alone a Bostig engine...Haha. I suppose I could import the engines and pay 100% import duty on it....Nah, that isn't happening. I will look at the TDI DC soon. Most of the cars here are used cars from Japan ( right hand drive 50k miles). Peoplel buy em and drive em until the blow up or are smashed up. Repair shops are pretty crude and people don't like older cars that have had work done on them, myself included. Repair work is creative to say the least, I shake my head at stuff here. Colin would be shocked!

No Subaru's, just used Japanese cars .. wait, what?

:bootyshake:

I was being facetious in the first place .. except for the "ship it home if it's solid" part.

The used car guys bring in only Toyota's, lots and lots of Toyotas with a few Nissans. A few new Isuzu 4x4 pickup trucks (turbo diesel 4 cyl) plus the new VW pickup from Brazil with 2L TDI. Lots and lots of odd ball cars brought over by Dutch folk......
