Itinerant Air-Cooled

Anyone on here with a Notchback? New guy in my town left a note on Elwood a couple weeks ago saying he had been around vws a long time and did welding, mainly making safari racks. I put note in glove box for future need. Soooo yesterday he approched me at hardware store and was very interesting and has had many splits and a favorite Champaine(sp) bay he lost to a fire, then he said he was restoring a '64 Notch and was having trouble finding door rubber, he does not do internet I would love to help him and after going over to TS --- TMI and I really don,t care to post there anymore but would PM the right person with knowledge of possible supplier. Anyone know if that would be Tram?

If he's doing a bone-stock restoration project, probably the best source is going to be ISP West. It's really "open yer wallet" though, original-style T3 doorseals ain't cheap .. even the cheap (read: crap) ones.

If absolute stock perfection isn't an issue, DDB has a kit that uses a modern style "on body" seal for the doors that replaces the pinchwelt around the opening .. under $100 for the pair IIRC but I haven't checked recently. Works well, looks good .. but doesn't look original.

Brazilian Type 3 seals are abysmal at $29.99 a PAIR from MidAmerica Motorworks. I got the last OEM German seals (they are always "the last ones") at $123.00 each and haven't looked back.
ISP West is the best source I have run into, but that doesn't mean they are "the best" they are sort of like "the only".

A pair for $233.95. Of course they're online-only which might be a problem for Elwood's friend. Perhaps he can find someone to order them for him and reimburse them.

Really? I coulda swore those garbage seals had disappeared from the market years ago...

My thanks to Hal, Colin and Dick for replies and links. I will take them over to him today and see what happens. My printer is out of ink but maybe my laptop can pick up wifi signal near his house. Or he can come to my space if he wants, he asked what was under car cover. Jake can be seen from street. He already gave me great advice about how to change my engine deck lid. I have had replacment from a '71 for years and thought I would have to cut license plate light wire to change over, but will not be necessary
