34 pict 3 question

Ok. I finally took my carb apart to soak in a can of dip. I remember I was supposed to remove all non metal parts. I tried to get the the plastic like part out of the choke area and broke it. Now what do I do?
Can I put it back together without the part or do I find a replacement?
and why is it so hard to get out?

Thanks

Which "plastic-like" part are you referring to? 39? All those parts work together and you can't really do without any of them if you want a functional choke.

Hi Sped. Its part 39 on the right side. I tried to pry it out gently and it just broke. Do they do that or was there a better way to do it.

Thanks

I've always been able to get them out with just my fingernails. Notice the little slot in it? See how the pin goes through there to interface with the little bent "arm" on the coil spring in the choke element?

I'm pretty sure the slot sets the end stops for the travel of the butterfly. I can't remember for sure but I don't think there's anything else that does it... someone else chime in if I'm wrong. You have to adjust the position of the spring to fine tune for weather conditions but the slot in "39" gives you hard stops for fully opened and closed.

Is this part available new or should I just try to find a used one?

Not available new unless you get lucky. Try contacting keifernet over at thesamba.com, or call these guys http://bustedbus.com/Catalog.aspx, or maybe try Walter at Bus Boys, 1-800-792-BOYS

(Otherwise you are out, like, $200 for a whole new carb. They aren't as good as German Solex either IMO, but can do the job or at least be there to rob parts from sometimes.)

Part #39 has given me troubles in the past. I do have a spare one, though. Gonna be at the Lab this Monday?

I'm pretty sure to be there Monday, Neil. Thanks for the part.

So I'll see you then.

I have had very good luck with the Brazil Solexes. No complaints in 20 years.

Oh I forgot you live in a community with more than three Buses. I'm jealous as I have to hunt down every part.
