Mounts on the frame?

the shock mounts would come with the bumper. I have to bring tools to remove the parts.

There must be threaded holes on the frame...not sure exactly though, I had a '73. It would be an upgrade of sorts. You have a Bentley? I have one at home for Supers.
Does this include taillight assemblies? they can get pricey. Yours MAY mount I'm not sure.

Ok so i'm an strike while the Iron's hot type guy. Hammies lead on parts led me to JIM the Brother Speed biker that has a spread with about 40 cars in various states of decomposition and several harleys in the garage. Sitting next to his current Baja project that is gettin frankenbugged.

$185 later and I have 2 wheels and tires L & R rear fenders and bumper with shock mounts. I am hopeful that the mounts will work on my frame without to much modifying. They are red and were being prepped for paint so they have some exposed metal here and there but are in pretty good shape.

Had to talk him out of the lenses that he had removed and put into the seat of one of the other cars nearby.
G: do you have the lenses for these taillights?"
J: "I'll see if I can find them"
G: "I think they are sitting in the seat of that car there"...
J: cloud passing over brow..."oh...ok..."

He picked up the bug with a forklift so it would be easier to remove the fenders in the dark. When I left, I gave the little bug a hug and told her it would be over soon.

The wheels are different than the ones I currently have but I bought one from Bookwus as a spare that will now become the replacement and one of the the new wheels will become the spare.
I will post pix in case anyone wants to trade wheels. Four lug with a four point star shape hub. no foom for a cap.

Now to get the "spare" bus sold and free up some driveway space for bug body love. Can't rightly ask the wife to place her Volvo on the street.

Think those are the "sport" wheels that came later. No hubcap, just a little black plastic cap.

I hated the crap they festooned later bugs with as the writing on the wall was studiously ignored and wall-papered over.

A great car was cheapened cynically, the sales dived, they "de-contented" the quality stuff off the car, and started dumping shitty plastic crap all over it, then, to really treat us contemptuously, they renamed it "Le Bug" and "champagne Edition" and screw them.

Mexican bugs are even worse...ultra flimsy plastic. Beetle in name and shape only. We live in odd times. And I still hear my coworkers going gonzo for the latest soon-to-be-obsolete-contraption. Don't they see the landfill built into it? We are dumb by blinking lights...

Wanna go for a ride?

Started to look around for tips on replacing my throttle cable as mine snapped the other day. Nothing yet but maybe someon will see this and chime in.

Just looking for where to start. I have a spare but haven't climbed around it yet after having it towed home.

(aside: Wednesday, almost to work at 8:28 am. Throttle cable snaps. Call AAA at 8:35. dropped the bug at home at 9:00. Change out of my suit into grubbies. Swap out snapped vanagon cable (first dry pavement since Monday, don't ya know). Buttoned up and back in the suit by 9:30. In the office by 9:45. Didn't need a 2nd cup of coffee that morning as the adreniline of needing to fix a vehicle to be back on the job so as to not miss an important (aint they all) meeting was all I needed.


Two tows in one week. Sure am getting my AAA's worth.

We just got a written offer that we countered today. Fingers crossed. Been looking at two bay garages and the houses that go with them.

Does anyone know why the bentley does not cover the throttle cable topic for this bug? Must be pretty simple.

Good luck on the house deal, but you should be looking at houses with 3 car garages. Two for the running vehicles and one spot for the "jack stand" area to work on a project!

It is. Disconnect the broken cable from the carb/throttle valve (I'm an F.I. guy, ya know!). Then suck yer gut in and crawl under the steering wheel where you can pull the accelerator pedal up and view the other end of the cable. You'll see it's a simple offset hook that just (yeah, "just") unhooks from the pedal. Lube up yer new cable and in the immortal words of Bentley, installation is the reverse of removal.

Heh. I wasn't even thinking of a place to park running vehicles. They can sit in the driveway or on the street. I was thinking only of one bay for a jacked up rig and one bay for work space...

Made an offer today on a place that has a garage with one bay but no door to pull anything in. That will have to come in the future if all goes through.

Thanks Trumbo. I will be sucking in as much gut as I can to get er done. I'll let you know how it comes out. Will silicone spray lube suffice? It's pretty pasty.

I have another spare acc cable that will be riding along for future incidents of this sort.

Heard of using speaker wire rigged to the carbs or FI throttle, just to get you home.
