Taking an "Ethics Test" to get a job!?!?

Post by Sluggo » Tue Feb 08, 2011 12:32 pm

Had to take an "Ethics Test" to get the job I wanted. FAILED! How the hell did I fail? The test was ridiculous. Had to answer true/false questions like "I have punched someone in the face just for the fun of it?" and "I think I am more productive when under the influence of illegal drugs." Somehow I failed. Didn't even get to the drug test! The interviewer even told me she didn't agree with the test and thought it was "stupid and inaccurate".

That's insane. I've never believed whiz tests were constitutional. But ethics? Whose? Sounds like an excuse to discriminate.

That's frustrating... but more than likely you should probably feel fine about not getting the job. Consider the abnormal interview to be your snapshot of how the entire company probably runs.

They offered the job to my Wife provided she passes the test. We'll see.

I agree with sped. You probably do not want that job. Just my experience with such employers.

Right now I want any job. Considering our home came with our employment, we are pretty desperate. I was counting on this.

In that case, maybe you could ask to see how you scored on the test and prep your wife with that knowledge.

Good luck!

I might be tempted to report that to the Oregon Bureau of Labor. Seems like that could be construed as discrimination. I'd also want to know what questions caused me to fail a test like that.

I agree. I don't believe a test like that is legal. As an employer, there is a VERY limited list of things I'm even allowed to ask prospective employees. I'd definitely make a call to BOLI and see what they say. That is BS. And no, you don't want to work for them.

I think they're quite common. I had to do something very similar once.
