Re: Is brexit dead?
Theresa May Not.
The simple problem with Brexit is that popular votes are not a good way to run a representative democracy other than to elect governance.
A 55-45 vote on a complex issue is not a mandate, and any politician of character should get up and say "This is more complex than we thought and we need to slow down"

Sadly, those are in very short supply, both nationally and globally.

Re: Is brexit dead?
Yup. All we seem to have now are politicians who are characters.
Not all of them, though. There are good people out there, but the voters have to put aside many of their preconceptions about gender, political orientation, and race to properly evaluate them. It's the electorate that is to blame, really, for not doing their homework and going instead with their fears and their biases. And, sadly, the most successful politicians are the ones who are best at playing onthose fears and biases.

Re: Is brexit dead?
I blame the schools and the marketing universe and our evolving laziness. We really need a catastrophe. That'll re-orient us to what is important once more, and it may remind us HOW we rely on each other.JLT wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 9:17 amYup. Re: Is brexit dead?
Has anyone else thought what a tragedy it is that Graham Chapman is gone, now that Boris Johnson is PM?

Re: Is brexit dead?
Never thought of it that way. One, of course, is famous for his madcap take on reality and his outlandish behavior. The other was a member of Monty Python.hippiewannabe wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2019 5:32 pmHas anyone else thought what a tragedy it is that Graham Chapman is gone, now that Boris Johnson is PM?

Ha, good one. I can hear him now:
I think all righthtinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired
