Countdown To The Election

Post by Amskeptic » Wed Oct 31, 2018 7:23 am

Six days away. I am nervous and hopeful. All I across this country, I have exhorted people to vote. In a southern Walmart checkout line, I almost had a tent revival going on. My hapless cashier had been cornered by my question.
"Are you going to vote?"
"Oh, yes,"
"Are you going to bring friends and family with you?"
"Oh, I wa . . . "
". . . and take them out for pizza afterwards and?"
"I have to work, I don . . . "
". . . offer to bring your fellow workers here to the polling place?"
" I hadn't a thought . . . "
"Hey LaShanda, Melissa here says she will take you all out for pizza after YOU ALL VOTE."
"THAT'S A GREAT IDEA, I'M IN!"
"Wait, I didn't promise . . . "
"Melissa, it is going to be awesome."
"I CAN TAKE SHIRLEY, SHIRLEY! YOU'RE WITH ME!"
"Melissa?"
"Here's your change, have a nice day."
"Melissa."
"Yes, OK, I'm doing it."
"SHE'S DOING IT, YOU HAVE MY WORD."

But, I am nervous. The "powers-that-be" have shown me their ruthlessness in a whole new way this election cycle. Dark money is flooding into races all across state lines, the deep pockets may very well blanket media markets with some sooper-sh*tty hit piece ads right up against Election Day without possibility of correction, and I just pray that my fellow Americans are not thrown by this nasty, wheedling negativity of those who have no real vision for this country.

Observations on the upcoming election are welcome.

Expecting the worst - hoping for the best.

As John Cleese said, "'It's not the despair: I can cope with the despair. It's the HOPE - that's what's killing me.'" Of course, this applies to my engine build too.

That is a good point.
Hopelessly hoping,
