Attack of the Oil Light
So there I am.
Blazing my way up the highway 26 hill by the zoo in my Vanagon. Doing 60-65 and carving my way through traffic like a hot knife. Then it happens. The power cuts out and I look at the dash and the oil light is staring out at me like the Eye of Sauron. I frantically stomp the clutch and kill the engine while looking for a hole in traffic to the shoulder. Lanes begin to sprout from nowhere as the oil light grows to the size of a grapefruit. With a start I realize I'm safe in my bed, clutching my pillow and it is two in the morning.
Camry drivers don't have dreams like this.

Re: Attack of the Oil Light
Thank god you mistook the gen light for the oil light in your 71. You just threw a fan belt and you have no spare nor tools.
How long can you go on the battery and keep stopping so you don't cook the engine? BTDT

Re: Attack of the Oil Light
Thank you so much for asking. She is resting, quietly, under a heavy blanket of snow in the exact same spot that you left her 2 itinerant seasons ago. The 2012, 'this bus is going on the road!' visit was derailed by multiple (oh, 3 or 4) back fractures. Once again, I vow - 'the bus is going on the road this year!'.

Re: Attack of the Oil Light
BeenThereDoneThat with a 67 splitty in Southern Oregon in 1970. Made it to Small town where I was able to install a fan belt. I hate borrowing a friends car as this how things usually turn out for me. Nowadays it's my car or I rent. Lessons learned via the school of hard knocks.Amskeptic wrote:Bleyseng wrote:Thank god you mistook the gen light for the oil light in your 71. Re: Attack of the Oil Light
NTSFAS (now there's some funny a## sh## for those who hate acronyms).
I was already sharing the story with a buddy at work, then got to the part where it was a dream. I enjoyed the mental imagery of your Vanagon carving its way through traffic at 60-65 mph. I suppose my bus would do that in its dreams too.

Re: Attack of the Oil Light
yeah, that's nice imagery of a Vanagon because if it's a bus its weaving it's way thru traffic its got a worn out center pin and sloppy steering.
