John, I am sorry you still have an oil leak. You need to drive it and forget about it. Keep your air filtration system in good shape, because you want to to do dusty dirty roads for some time. Then you may get blessed with a tell-tale track when you go back in. Do you feel comfortable with your cleanliness/torque/sealing of the gallery plugs? Geesh, what else is there? Cam plug?

I do intend to drive it and just add oil as necessary. The oil gallery plugs are solidly in there, but I suppose a leak due to the messed up threads could still cause issues. If so, that's a case-level problem, and I am prepared to just live with it.

And it does drive like a demon, with those dual Webers. That pickup really goes!

With that settled, such as it is, and with Ann the Van and Jelly Bean with new enthusiastic owners, I finally have no urgent bus work hanging over me. That is the first time in many years. Which means that I can enjoy the truck, and use it for actual pickup truck work (hauling stuff to the dump or the Habitat for Humanity Restore, getting mulch, sitting in the back at outdoor concerts) and have fun.

One more bus to find a new home for: The wrecked 1974 Westy, a.k.a. the mobile storage unit. Then I will be down to just the two pickups.
