Disconnect Battery Before Charging?

Post by cegammel » Sat Apr 09, 2016 7:36 pm

Just flipping pages in the Muir, and I come across a bold faced caveat that the battery should never be charged while connected to the car due to possible damage to the ecu...

Any truth to this? Is my 1amp trickle charger killing my van?

Thanks...

A modern solid state charger that knows how to shut itself down when it reaches the threshold is not going to harm your car or the ECU which IS out of the circuit when the ignition is off ANYWAY, courtesy of the double relay.
