Good paper maps are da bomb. I see exactly where you're talking, and yes it is worth checking out. Looks like there may be many options off 170, 022, and 140. I'll drive up there if I get a chance in the next week ... and I just might make a chance I do have a hunch it is on the 4-wheelers-outa-pine hollow route ... but hey, they come late, leave early, and will give you something to snarl at . I'll try to take a peek. Snow is gone there.

I'll be heading out mid morning on Friday. Gotta get out there and adjust the valves some time this week. I'll throw in some dry fire wood too.
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.

Yeah, I'll bring mine. Figure it's always a good thing to have along since I have it. Never know when a tree is going to come down on the only road out.deschutestrout wrote:you bringin' your chainsaw or should i bring mine?

Re: Annual Badger Creek Spring Trip - Mar 21-23
Friday departure, Monday return works for me. I had no time, desire, motivation to drive up there today ... so, Hambone, let's meet in Tygh Friday AM, scout the "new" option together, and either camp up there, or I'm kinda diggin' the "campin' by the creek" idea. I very much like camping by water. But, I have a hunch there are a few good sites on that Highland Ditch loop ... and we'd get a bit more sun (if we're lucky and it's actually shining on us)

Re: Annual Badger Creek Spring Trip - Mar 21-23
Yeah, boys didn't feel like heading up there, and I just didn't have the gumption to drive up there, knowing I'd be heading up again this weekend. The google earth shots "look" promising. We can target/plan on camping up there, and if we decide Bonney is better, we can leave a sign at the junction ... they'll figure it out ... even Stephan at 3am with his GPShambone wrote:Sounds good, I was lookin forward to your lowdown though! Re: Annual Badger Creek Spring Trip - Mar 21-23
Okay. Directions to where we'll be, as cut/pasted from previous trips. Bob, do these directions look rock solid for those who haven't been here?
Directions, courtesy of Mark from '08:
Take I-84 to The Dalles...exit 87...hwy 197 South towards Maupin. 10 miles before Maupin you'll come to a blinking light. Turn right into Tygh Valley (or left if you've come over the mountain and are heading north on 197) Turn right at the Tygh Tavern ... not towards the fairgrounds, more like veer right ...this will put you on Wamic Market Road ... if you don't start climbing out of town soon, you took the wrong road . Follow this up the hill and on into the town of Wamic (stay left at the junction where you see signs for "Lexies"). Once to Wamic(7 miles or so), turn left at the Y (follow signs to Barlow Road Route). After 4 miles, the pavement will change to shock-testing broken pavement...you'll know you're approaching the turn off . Go another mile (5 miles total from Wamic) and turn right (road 4810) at the sign for Bonney Crossing. 1/4 mile stay right at the Y. Mile 2...take right at sign (road 4811). Mile 4...go right at the T onto 2710.
PLAN A: after turning onto 2710, watch for the first road on the left (170). We hope to find a good site on 170, 022, or 140 (they all sorta loop together). At the junction of 2710 and 170, I will put a sign on the first good post I find that's very visible. YES! means continue to find me somewhere down 170.
NO! means ... go to PLAN B. Stay on 2710 and come down the hill to Bonney Crossing camp.
Ignore the continuation of the red line extending past Bonney Crossing .... this map is from a previous trip, (however, that camp will be Plan C)

Re: Annual Badger Creek Spring Trip - Mar 21-23
Great directions, thanks for doing that! I still use that map, it's getting beat to hell though! 8 years of hard work.
I have that orange hubcap too, that should help find us.

Re: Annual Badger Creek Spring Trip - Mar 21-23
I ... am ... ready ... to go camping! I'd be surprised if plan A doesn't provide something very workable ... at least another site to add to our list of area options (I very much like adding to that list). But, as those who've been here before know, Plan B is awesome ... and if I am wiffle-waffle looking at a possible site on the loop, I'm headin' down the hill to Bonney
So, Stephan? Mike? Randy? Hal? Nice-guy-w/o-running-vw-with jeep-whose name I can't retrieve at the moment? Or, are you gonna surprise us
Weather is supposed to be quite favorable. One of my favorite camps of the year. Bring wood and/or plan on gathering/cutting a bunch. Gonna be cool at night.

Re: Annual Badger Creek Spring Trip - Mar 21-23
How's the snow on that side? I'm seeing quite a bit in the lower hills on this side.
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.
