yes, I do actually drive one when I am Seattle. This was just before I left to go back to work in Suriname in April and it was sunny for one day.

Re: Ghia's
Labor of love.
Kinda almost back on the road. Pulling engine next Wednesday to check the torque on the heads after the new engine's break-in, and to inspect flywheel/gland nut/pressure plate for a possible source of some vibration issues.
Sure is fun to drive.

Re: Ghia's
They are fun. My older brother had a few back in the early '80s. I remenber the white '64 and the blue '72, but there was another I can't remember the year or color of. All stock.
We went to visit our mother in January about 1981 or '82; 200 miles each way scraping ice off the inside of the windshield with a cassette case. That was in the '64. Good times.

Re: Ghia's
The vert is soo fun in the cold as the heat cooks your feet while the windshield is foggy. The blasts of cold air from the top down your neck are great too so its not a cold weather car. Fun to drive but its definitely low tech and not smooth compared to the 914 which loves speed, hell even the Westy is a better car to drive.

Yeah they were unsophisicated, but for the minimalist in me, it's the perfect sports car.
Thank's for posting the picture. Good memories.
Neal, I didn't know you had a Ghia until now.

Re: Ghia's
For a spell now, yep. Four, five years now? Gretchen Ghia, 1970. And my first, Gretta Ghia, 1962, when I was a young buck. I turned 21 with her and saw her turn 21.
I can relate to scraping frost from inside of the window with a cassette case in Gretta. Straight pipes, no heater boxes. Feet going numb with cold. Good times indeed. No photos though. Just Gretchen.
Transaxle went out. Fresh engine. That one isn't it. The red one is the new one.
Getting closer. Long story.

Re: Ghia's
So do I Hippie. It's actually my Father-in-law's. He's got a '46 or '47 tractor restoration project in the space at the moment. He was kind enough to loan me the space for a couple weeks that turned into 8 months.

What a dude. Is your FIL still married? 'Cause I'm not gay or anything but I could marry him for that shop...

Is he a Mormon too?
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue, I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod, The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Re: Ghia's
Now stop that. Yes, both parental in-laws are breathing. In close proximity. Classic forever first marriages. Don't get me started. Catholic in flavor I believe.
I just do my best not to take advantage. ahem, well, yeah, so, I mean well, since then.

Re: Ghia's
FIL is actually very generous with facilities. Hey, you need a backhoe? He's on it. He has it. It's a tree farm. Logging happens.
