Re: 1971 Square Back- Virginia
Lets discuss exhaust today since my eyes have been scouring the web for them.
I have seen single quiet pack, duel quiet pack, 4 tipped GT dealios..........
what do you all like for exhausts on these bad boys?

With fuel injection, stock exhaust. Ask ISP West. Just pay it.Bizzle wrote:Lets discuss exhaust today since my eyes have been scouring the web for them.

With aftermarket carbs, the best quality you can get your hands on, properly tucked up, no cans dragging under the bumper knocking into crap.

My '71 Squareback is in about the same shape body-wise, maybe marginally better. Beautiful car though--I love white.Bizzle wrote:Rust as usual, some spots not so bad, some pretty bad.
My guess? Panic + Muir's trepidation in The Idiot Book = thousands of f.i. Type 3s converted to carbsBizzle wrote:I'm not sure what possessed everyone to become carb conversion addicts.
You first, Bizzle, and I'll follow your lead. Take lots of pictures.amskeptic wrote:Body off if hideous structural issues along channels and pillars.

Re: 1971 Square Back- Virginia
Carbs are simpler. F.I. has a hell of a learning curve, at least as far as some of the troubleshooting. In my limited experience it can be leakier too due to the higher fuel pressure, but of course proper maintenance can take care of this. I have come across many leaky injectors lately, I guess that happens with many miles.
On the plus side, it is very durable and stays dialed in for a long time. And it does give the engine more HP.

My Lincoln Continental has some huge honking whitewalls from Coker under the Bridgestone brand. 17 years, and the tires are in excellent condition.dtrumbo wrote:I've never bought them, but I know these guys have them.Bizzle wrote:who do you all like to get white wall tires from?

Re: 1971 Square Back- Virginia
Hey All. We are still kicking over here in sqrback land
Finally have time to get under the car and start replacing lines and such.
I have 2 items I cannot identify
first is this wire which comes out of the center cavaity right by the fuel tank's outgoing line.
second is, this little guys is sittin up on the top back middle section of engine bay, behind the engine with a thin dangly tube coming out of it...doesnt look like it had been used in ages

#2 is the charcoal canister, part of the emissions system. Not sure about #1.

Re: 1971 Square Back- Virginia
#1 is front of car, right under gas tank, coming out a little to the left of where the metal fuel line runs thru mid section..unless a brake light cable follows that path...maybe......my electrical prowess is equal to zero :(

the round screwtop portion of the crank cake ventilation housing keeps popping up like a jack in a box
is there supposed to be anything under this plastic cap with the spring? and what should i do to keep it from popping up?
