Re: A New Heart For Miss Zora
They took them apart, cleaned the screens, put them back together & retested them. Now they're better than ever. $25 each but they gave me a discount because I told him about our forum. They use word of mouth rather than advertising.

Re: A New Heart For Miss Zora
Good to get the injectors cleaned as the engine will love it. The correct spray pattern helps a lot (fine cone shaped mist).
Make sure to file the ends of the Heat exchangers flat so they fit correctly to the heads where they meet the copper gaskets. Damn things always leak there.

Re: A New Heart For Miss Zora
I love this VW thing we've got going!!!
Heather came by last night and brought fellow VW traveler, Heidi, along to help out. We got the heater boxes installed.
I spent the entire day filing the ends to even them out and give them a smooth surface...THE ENTIRE DAY! sheesh.
Bob & Hal assisted big time today. Thanks you guys! =D>
The new engine compartment panels from Werksberg were installed, the bell housing was cleaned out and the new throw-out bearing was put into place. The exhaust (sans muffler) was attached to the engine. Heidi stopped by again just in time for us to take the engine off the stand!!!
After checking end play, we needed to order a couple of flywheel shims which will be ready at Discount in Beaverton for pick up by 10:30am tomorrow morning. Heather is picking those up on her way over. We may need an extra set of hands (or two) to help us install the engine. All that is left right now is replacing the remaining fuel line and fuel filter, take out the spark plugs, put her to TDC, install the engine, add oil. I'm sure there are more steps but I am wiped out and my brain just said, "nighy night." I'm posting the pictures, taking a shower then will probably pass out. *happy sigh*
Enjoy!
Filing Station
Making it even.
Making it glimmer.
Missing tin painted & installed.
Heater Boxes Installed
I heart VW chicks.
New engine compartment panels.
For the hatch, too!
Lovely new throw out bearing.
Exhaust in place.
Genuine VW flywheel shim.

Re: A New Heart For Miss Zora
Had to leave before the start. Paige, Heather and Heidi were working on the connections when we left. Engine is in. Bertha was apparently jealous of all the attention Miss Zora was getting and had a bit of a conniption fit, so we packed her onto a AAA flatbed tow truck and just got home.

Re: A New Heart For Miss Zora
Ohhhhhh. so close.
The engine is indeed in. Had a few hang ups through out the day that kept us from completing our task before it got dark and cold and we got tired. We will begin again in the morning. Heather is coming over with a few more parts - the muffler clamp was for a type 1. doh!
Gotta hit the hay.
Off the stand.
Fabulous little covers.
Getting the end play figured out.
Flywheel and clutch plate installed.
Getting her into position.
FINALLY!!!!
Ta da!
Bertha gets a ride home.
These two wires may have come out but we weren't sure. The tape indicates this plug goes to the voltage regulator but looking at the wiring diagram, I couldn't tell if those two wires needed to be inserted into the plug and if so, which one to which hole. If not, they must go somewhere? And can you tell I'm tired?

Re: A New Heart For Miss Zora
Be a part of history!! Well, Miss Zora's history. Lend a hand to start-up day (today). Heather & I will be attaching vacuum hose & such then priming her for start up. Not sure how long this will take. She has to leave early afternoon so it would be really cool to have a couple of folks help watch for oil leaks and perhaps diagnose anything that we have missed. I'm at Shepski's now. It's 8:30am. Sooooooooooooo excited!!!!
