Also on the road in 15. I'm pretty sure I won't be there tonight, but I will definitely be there tomorrow.

I've got a few bottles of Wilco Tango Foxtrot from Lagunitas.

Looking forward to it.

Well were 150 miles from bend and the bus won't start. Can hear a little whoosh type sound when I try but it doesn't crank. Will pop it for now. Solenoid?

Can you push start it?

I have arrived, along with the Tent of Doom, the Annex of Despair, and the Tent of Falling Water (aka the big shower tent). Hope to see y'all real soon.

As I've mentioned before, the shower tent is for general use. Bring your own hot water, soap, shampoo, towel, etc. I also brought along an extra solar shower bag, so if you don't have one, you can still be clean.

Whoo-hoo! With the help of the gurus at Halsey I have a new (to me) air flow meter and the Adventurewagen is running great. Few chores in the AM and the Kubelwagen clan are off leaving PDX for Maupin!

we made it to our hotel here in Bend, Or for the night.

I gave the solenoid a few gentle whacks with the little lug wrench from the bus took kit, but it still wouldn't try to start up.

I was lucky enough to find a gas station with a little downhill slope the last time I filled up, but im on E right now and it will probably be a bit harder to find the same here in town.

Im pretty confident that I could find a place to get it pop started again and make my way to Maupin, but once im parked there in the grass of the camp ground, im not sure id be able to get it rolling quick enough again to be able to pop it.

so the question for us becomes, stay here in Bend tomorrow all day trying to A. Find the correct starter and B. Install it

OR - wing it and hope we can find a way to either fix it or pop start it from a camping spot in Maupin.

doh. on the plus side, were close and we'll get there by the end of the day tomorrow hell or high water.

Get to Maupin. There will be no shortage of people power to get you rolling. It doesn't take much speed to push start these engines. There's already about a dozen vans/busses here.

I'm pointed downhill just in case but a second cleaning of connections and a few more whacks on the solenoid and it turned over on it's own

Classic Hot Start. I bet in the morning, it will start easy as pie.

Try this:

Have someone sit in the drivers seat.

Grab a cresent wrench (plus glove) and crawl up to where you have a good shot at the starter solenoid.

Have your trusty co pilot turn the key to "on"

bridge the two posts on the solenoid with the wrench and have your copilot turn the key to the start area.

It might just work....this trick saved one of our trips and we used it for two weeks to start the bus.
