. . . but clearly I hadn't seen it all.

Today I saw it all.

A shopping cart cruising down the highway:

. . . until I discovered upon closer inspection that it was actually being trailered:

If you are going to drive a shopping cart on the highway, you can't beat a nice Type 4 engine:

I am slightly crippled in Portland with this !&*%$#*@%!!$!! Facet fuel pump failing on me. How long ago did I almost get killed on I-5 at Lake Shasta when my decade-old pump gave it up?

This Facet piece of crap is barely not yet a year old. I hate crap. It died on the bridge between Vancouver and Portland at 4:30PM in the left lane. With a dead engine I had to do a very insane three lane swerve + exit ramp with no braking to hoard momentum. I hauled into the Oregon DOT yard and discovered that my Pennslvania rain rewiring was FINE! but the pump is crap. NAPA in the early morning before khargis call.
I am getting a pricy rotary Carter pump. To hell with plastic Facet.

Did you roll down your window and yell at him to seal his engine compartment? :joker:

I have actually seen a bigger version of that at a parade - I think it was powered by a Chevy 350.

I have a ten year old facet...but then I have a 100k GEX also. To think I thought of myself as unlucky.

There's a spare facet waiting for you in Santa Clara if you want it.

Thanks, but not me. I am going Carter rotary. No more solenoid-actuated rubber diaphragms. NAPA Guy and I agreed that Facet quality has dropped. Turns out that the leak I had with the provided filter was not an unknown issue.

That's great! =D>
The shopping cart that is...

I remember reading about that Lake Shasta incident too, and soon after my pump died as well. Call it Serendipity?

:blackeye:

I bought a Carter pump and never looked back. Of course I sold the bus, but still talk to the new owner every now and then. Still runnin' like a top!

Last night I was stranded in Milwaukie, just south of Portland, due to a sudden valve cover gasket leak... I'll explain what happened at the Lab on Monday.
Anyway, my brother and I are in his bus on the search for new VCG's, driving around in the hot summer day, with not a worry in the world about the time, and pulled into Discount Import Parts only the find the doors LOCKED! DAMMIT! I continue shaking the door, like I didn't know it was locked the first time... and a nice older gentleman walks out and tells me "We're Closed, Computers are down so I can't sell you anything. Come back tomorrow."
In desperation I tell him "Oh kind sir, my bus is stranded and all I need are 2 valve cover gaskets... Could you please? I have cash!"
To which he replied "Come on in, I always take care of my people."
:bounce:
This is one of the MANY reasons I LOVE PORTLAND!

See you Monday?

Why not go with the mechanical fuel pump that came with the bus in the first place?

I think he has a funky case that doesn't have the mount for the mechanical pump?

MAF804, I love Portland too! It is 94* and sunny! Always!

You are correct, chitwnvw, I cannot use the mechanical pump because my case has not been drilled out for it.

Never had a rotary Carter pump die on me, and I've been using them for years. Never had a Facet pump fail .. but I've never used one either. :drunken:

Oh my...a "big wheel" shopping cart.
