Glorious Proletariat Camp and Melon Bust - Big Bottom 4-2011

Post by hambone » Mon Mar 28, 2011 4:38 pm

Although my gear is still rainy, The Dawn of a New Camp Is Born From the Firey Ashes, Comrades.

Mid April? Big Bottom, oh, it's splendid you'll love it.

Let's have a show of fannies: :bootyshake: I'm in!

Man this place is getting ridiculous. Who's in charge around here????

Ok ok Big Bottom:

Description
The Clackamas Wilderness consists of five widely separated tracts of roadless land, scattered left and right of the Clackamas River for 50 miles. These pieces include Big Bottom, Clackamas Canyon, Memaloose Lake, Sisi Butte and South Fork Clackamas. With the largest trees in northwest Oregon, the Clackamas Wilderness protects clean drinking water for many Oregonians. A well-known hike in the Clackamas Wilderness is the trail to Memaloose Lake. It climbs through an old-growth forest 1.4 miles to the lake, and then continues a mile up to a viewpoint atop South Fork Mountain. The word memaloose means "dead" in Chinook jargon, the old Indian trade language of the Northwest. Now the lake's old-growth forest is a rare wilderness island in a sea of logged lands.

The map takes 10,000,000 years to load but it is worth it IF YOU DARE.

I hear the fuzz heard about this one, hence the "melon bust".
A man said to the universe, "Sir I exist! "However," replied the universe, "the fact has not created in me a sense of obligation."

"Let me be perfectly clear" "[...] And so that was just a example of a new senator, you know, making what is a political vote as opposed to doing what was important for the country." Barry Sotero

The map points to a sizable section of forest. When I zoom in i end up near peat creek road (fs 6311) and granite rd (FS6310) is this near?

is this big bottom?:
[album]67[/album]

it appears to be between 46 and 4651. lowlands (so less chance of snow).

The very end of 4650 looks like a good spot (2800ft).

Also there is a spur off granite rd that ends in a big open area (3200ft).
Looks like good hiking around both areas.

Any of the areas you describe look good. Others near as well.

Mid April? 16-17?

oh yeah....

Yep that's the one. I've spent a lot of time around there over the years. There are 2 kamps that I know of, one behind the BOTTOM and the other at Rho Creek.
April 14-17 thereabouts?

Should we bump this one forward a week or 2? This February weather sucks. It will be dog-**** cold out there.
17" above normal rainfall, 10 deg. below normal temps. 3rd year in a row. Is this the new normal?
I am tuff and will go whenever. Just thought I'd throw the idea out there.

That'd be better for me but don't change on my account. This weather does fully suck though.
