Now that we're up and running again I'd like to revive this thread... hopefully there's still interest.

I had another thought, Nelson Dewey State Park on the Mississippi near Cassville. It's about 240 miles from Belle Plaine and 220 from Chicago. Pretty near halfway. I've not been there but have heard it compared to Wyalusing.

They have group sites... spring is gone but we could do a fall trip still...?

That looks like a nice ride from my house. And let's not forget Des Moines. Nelson Dewey is about equal distance for the Hippie crew as well. But when? August? September? October? July is already shot for me but let that stop anyone.

Ya'll pick a date and we'll try to make it. The weekend of Sept 18 is totally out for me though.

I checked with someone at Nelson Dewey and the group sites sound just about perfect. There's a large enough area to park the buses all together.

Would everyone rather set a date or wait awhile and play it by ear?

I was just about to post a big "Me Too" and then realized I start weekend classes in August. I'll have to check the dates. I think it starts 8/21, which would make september and october bad for me. I'll probably have to miss it.

I read about this while waiting at my local outdoor store. Looks pretty nice and relatively unheard of. Nice drive from Chicago area too.

I've heard of this place but haven't visited it personally. I'd prefer Nelson Dewey, as we've already done Yellowstone Lake this year, and I like seeing as much variety (geographically) as possible - but that's just being picky.

The main point is, how ever we can get the most of us together is what's priority.

I'm wary of reserving a group site, as it's $60/night and that's a bit expensive if people back out. Isn't coordinating things fun? Maybe we need to try our best for this fall, but in actuality pick a firm date for next summer already. That way we can all put it on the calendar now and plan around it.

I liked Sped's suggestion of the Nelson Dewey State Park because of it's central location. I like the weekends of 10/9, 10/16, or 10/23.
