Washington Campy Trip May 29-31 2008

Post by hambone » Tue Apr 22, 2008 9:43 am

Hopefully the weather will finally change for the better. If anyone can swing a Thurs-Sat trip it would be great! Unfortunately I'm out of vacation time right now.....

I'll go anywhere, from Tacoma to Eugene to points in between. But Boston's too far, by plane or by car...I'm sure the snow's nice but I've had enough ice. The Cascades are just swell, and hey what the hell, we might even have sun, wouldn't that be fun? And somewhere in-between (some day it would seem) that if I don't find the time to get out, I might lose my mind without doubt. Yes, lose my mind, wouldn't that be fine? So take all that snow (man does it blow) and give me some green (it's not that hard it would seem) to sit below firs and watch the gentle wind stir the ferns and branches up top. And now without pause, I promise to stop.

Looks like the Canyon Creek area is the only one open right now, washouts and tons of snow out there.

Nice map. OK by me, that's very close to the area of old growth I was tellin ya about. Not sure it will be accessible by May though, with this crazy snowpack. The recreation report isn't encouraging:

schedule changed to wed-sat, so no go for me on this one. But sure makes it nice to go out camping on my days off. Not a whole buncha folks out and about on Tuesday mornings.

That's a great area. The Indian Heaven Wilderness especially. I might be able to do a Friday/Saturday night. I've been feeling this strange tickle in my throat that most likely will get worse on a Friday strangely enough. :pirate:
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.

We might have to start buying carbon credits if these campouts keep going on 200 miles+ away from our homestead. :king:

Yeah, this trip should be closer to Tacoma. You guys have gone above and beyond coming way out into the Oregon hinterlands, we owe ya a few.
Maybe a dry run is in order to see if we can get to that St. Helens area.

May 15-17? (at least those are MY days off.....)

When I git home I'll check the books for the area I hear is kickass-oldgrowth-next-to-blast-zone. We still may be snowed out tho.

I probably cannot swing the thursday thru saturday thing this time around but if the place is closer to us we could depart Friday after work and be there for a nice weekend.

Surprised more folks haven't chimed in, is everyone busy busy? Weekend before M. Day screwing this up? If this keeps up I might have to come down to P town for a weekend just to catch up with everyone.

Drat, I don't have any more vacation time until the summer. Any chance of getting a Friday off? I'd have to head home Saturday.
