Any camping in California March 14th - 21st?

Post by amishman » Wed Feb 06, 2008 3:52 pm

The wife and I have plans on packing the two pooches and doing some late winter early spring camping the week of March 14th thru 21st. Anyone here camping in Cali during that time? Where are you going? Maybe we will bump into you.

Going up into the snow? Might still be some left during that time.
I have our first trip planned for mid-April at Lake Del Valle, the local CG.

Thought about doing something in March, at first. We have kids, 4 and 6. May be a bit cold for them, though. Last year we started in April.

Keep this thread alive with your plans. Maybe we'll come see you for the day at least. Burn up a steak and throw back a brew.

I'm looking in the California Camping book by Stienstra. Oldr edition.

I see, Malakoff Diggins, South Yuba Trail, Scotts Flat, Skillman, Whitecloud, and Fuller lake near you.

I've been to Moonshine CG near Bullards Bar Res. They have electric there. Sits on a creek. Not bad. Spot #4 and/or 5, IIRC.
Privately owned. Not sure how soon they open for the season.

I am actually looking to camp away from home <grin> Someplace at least 3 hours away. Maybe Samuel Redwood Campgroud area over in Marin county as the closest. Probably looking to go further south though. Maybe down central coast or something.

Newspaper said ANOLD may close Malakoff down for budget cuts. 8-(

We stayed at New Brighton Beach last Oct. Just a bit south of Santa Cruz.
Nice place.

What is tuff is finding a place I can camp and take dogs on the trails. Cali is so bad about dogs and camping. Most places don't allow dogs on trails.

Now Oregon is much better about that.

I will check out this NBB web site.

Thanks

Yes, I agree. I have found that the Mom and Pop CG's are more tolerable of the critters than the Gov's places.

Maybe you need to find out about the lost coast. I'll be back

Theres a campground in Los Padres NF called Arroyo Seco that's pretty cool. It's pretty primitive but you'd probably be almost alone out there this time of year. Not sure about the dogs though. It's about an hour SW from Salinas. It's worth a look.
Thanks,

Looks like I am staying somewhat north and gonna go to Samuel P Taylor State Park above SF this weekend.

Hope to see a few VWs staying there.

When we go camping I always have to take the pooches for a walk around the campground trying to scout out anyone there in a VW Bus!
