December 2007 Snow Camp

Post by hambone » Mon Oct 15, 2007 10:58 am

There's been some hubbubbbabub about camping in the snow this season so I thought I'd start somethin' off.
Snowshoes? X-country skiing? Yeti-ish?
Should be pretty easy to find snow by December. Most Forest Service roads climb above 2000', so really all we'd have to do is pick an area and drive until the road is blocked.
Winter wonderland! I've never camped in the snow. Should be a hoot.

Ha ha, that's funny..pants on a duck!

I try to get out with you folks as much as I can, BUT YA'LL LIVE IN PORTLAND!!!! :geek: It's been great though, you came to visit us and Jasan and Stephan came by and saw our pad on the way up to the San Juans....so it's all good, we are all travelin fools.

I have a set of snow shoes but they are marooned at my folks place in Utah...I need to get em up here. I love snowshoeing, especially when you find a nice patch of powder at the bottom of a drop off and you get a good run at it...........POOOF!! It's like being a kid again...

I'd like to make my first OR IAC Contingent Campout. We're broke as shit, but I think I can scrounge up a few duckets for the gas.

Never been snow camping. Close, had a 20-something degree overnight in the Santa Cruz mountains. But I've got a woman, a dog, a propane heater to keep me warm.

Yep, Hammie doesn't like 'gassy' people.

Who knows, I might find me a Army Corps of Engineers jobby job down in OR in the future...we are just goin' with the flow right now...not much sense in fightin' the big river of life.

Although, the tootin' does keep me warm at night, sometimes I stink myself awake though ...HUH, WHAT?? :pukeleft:
GOOD GOD!! :cyclopsani:

A heater would be crucial for a cold campout, that and a plan if a monster storm sticks it to us and we get stuck.

IF my Westy is running, I'll probably be down. (You guys will help me get it up and running in time, right?)

Dj...You don't need cash to ride along. you just get to do the dishes...

Naw jes kiddin'...Few bucks in gas or hitch a ride up north, we'll figger it out from there.

We gots to head north for spiff and copilot. It's only fair and a new forest to get 86ed out of....ahem...

not necessarily for the snow thing but, you know.

I like both snow shoeing and xcountry skiing. I'd probly prefer the skiing as I have the gear. but mixin it up would be grand..
So it all started when I wanted to get better gas mileage....
