Annual Badger Creek Trip - March 27-29, 2015

Post by deschutestrout » Sat Mar 07, 2015 9:38 am

Okay. Directions to where we'll be, as cut/pasted from previous trips.

Take I-84 to The Dalles...exit 87...hwy 197 South towards Maupin. 10 miles before Maupin you'll come to a blinking light. Turn right into Tygh Valley (or left if you've come over the mountain and are heading north on 197) Turn right at the Tygh Tavern ... not towards the fairgrounds, more like veer right ...this will put you on Wamic Market Road ... if you don't start climbing out of town soon, you took the wrong road :-). Follow this up the hill and on into the town of Wamic (stay left at the junction where you see signs for "Lexies"). Once to Wamic(7 miles or so), turn left at the Y (follow signs to Barlow Road Route). After 4 miles, the pavement will change to shock-testing broken pavement...you'll know you're approaching the turn off . Go another mile (5 miles total from Wamic) and turn right (road 4810) at the sign for Bonney Crossing. 1/4 mile stay right at the Y. Mile 2...take right at sign (road 4811). Mile 4...go right at the T onto 2710.

PLAN A: after turning onto 2710, watch for the second road on the left (140). Our plan "A" is to camp at the end of this road. Plan "B" would be where we camped last year, at the end of 170 (if 140 is for some reason inaccessible, or occupied, DO NOT ATTEMPT the connecting road 022! Double back and catch 170. Plan C would be Bonney Crossing camp. At the junction of 2710 and 140, I will put a sign on the first good post I find that's very visible. Look at the entrance to 170 as well as you go past, as we'll post something there if plan "B" is it. (see upper left corner of the map, below the blue line marking the creek)

Ignore the continuation of the red line extending past Bonney Crossing .... this map is from a previous trip, (however, that camp will be Plan C)

Hey Mark, do you know if FR-48 is open? Thinking with the super low snow pack this year it might be clear.

A buddy of mine took that road yesterday and said it's clear. Odd.

I thought it might be with only 8% of normal snow pack. Boy are they going to be screaming drought this summer.

So from the maps I'm looking at it seems that we stay on 4811 past the T for 2710 and the take a right onto 140? The pin here on this map? Still working on getting Friday off.

That's how it seems. No snow, we maybe able to come across on FS roads from 26.

Quite a bit of snow expected this week, whattya think? We may have to stay on main roads until the Eastside...
What about Mike Boell? And the rest of those guys?
P.S. trying to get out Thursday too.

Hmm, that could cause an issue. Suppose to be warm after Tuesday though. Could melt by then. Looks like sunny and low 70s in Tygh Valley from Wednesday on.
