Oregon to Yosemite, and then some?

Our plans are set and we leave in 2 days. We are taking our time to get there and plan on hitting Crater, Yosemite, Kings canyon/Sequoia, and staying at some Na. forests in between.
While traveling down 89 what are some awesome Na. forests to stay in between Lasson and Yosemite?
Around Yosemite, with close access to the park, what are some Na. forests to stay in?
Has anyone used the doggy daycare in Yosemite? What is it like?
Is there anything that we should put on the list to stop by?
Our plans are this: leave Bend, travel S. and make it to Kings canyon and back in 2 weeks. No reservations and plans are never final. We do what we can do and have fun.
