Oregon Summit Lake Camp - July 25 - 2012

Post by hambone » Sun Jul 08, 2012 4:53 pm

Any takers? I want to try a new area where the old Oregon Skyline Trail used to go through, in the far eastern part of the Clackamas River R.D. Lodgepole pine country, high and dry.
I hope to be kid free, and may camp the better part of a week.

I have a couple areas scoped out in this vicinity, in the area around Summit Lake:

Here is the campground. I wonder if they charge/check mid-week?

I wonder if anyone knows that PCT sign drawing is supposed to be a joke?

We'll be in the San Juan islands and packing for our move before that. Looks like it might be fall before I can get out again. Maybe September.
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.

Wow! Good luck man. Thanks for letting me know, it'll be weird out there without you.
We'll plan a big one for September, all those mosquito-free meadows. Maybe Plaza Lake again.

You know, I have also considered Central Oregon for the July camp...the Ochoco Mountains. It's about 5 hours from Portland past Prineville in old growth Ponderosa Pines. We shall see.

It's looking like July 25 - ? for me tentatively. Once I know for sure I'll change the thread title.

I think I'll keep it in the Summit Lk. area, what the hell. Either the lake (but I hate paying!!!) or a pocket of springs nearby. 5 or 6 trails go there, all abandoned.
What's really cool is that the area was never logged. Must have been a fire 100 years ago or it would be full of clearcuts by now.

Hmmm.... Well poop. I think I'm going to Faerieworlds that weekend, but if I opt against it, I'll be there.

Faerieworlds? Do tell about that one.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue, I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod, The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Yup. Where else will random cute drunken Faerie girls beg you to help break the spell that is holding them to the ground? (Antidote- a little cool water, a helping hand and a steady shoulder.)

I'm back! What a fabulous week out in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness with family.

I am able to head out on Wednesday the 25th and stay until Sunday. Join me, I don't want to sit out there by myself.

WTF?
Well for the record, Plan A is Lemiti Butte off 4220
Plan B is Summit Lake
not that I'm expecting anybody. Disappointing! But I'm still going tomorrow.
