downhill snowsports IAC style

Post by Oregon72 » Tue Jan 05, 2010 8:47 pm

I know there are a few air-cooled VW enthusiasts here in the Portland area that also happen to be ski/snowboard/tele enthusiasts as well. Gypsie and Dhoch14 off the top of my head.

How many people would be up for taking a half-day off work and getting up where the air is clear and the snow is light for a bit of nite-time snow sliding - Perhaps Mt. Hood Meadows or SkiBowl one of these afternoon/evenings?

Shameless plug sorry... if you ever end up in Whitefish, MT to ski mention you're a VW pilot and you'll get 10% off lodging. We implemented it when Bodeswell came through last autumn. We've had 44" in the last week. Skied untracked waist deep all yesterday morning and bluebird groomer softies this morning. Yum.

If/when I make it out to Portland/Hood again I'll look you all up to make some runs!

I snowboard once in a while, last time was 2 years ago, so I would probably not be able to keep up with y'all. On the other hand, I'd totally be up for snowshoeing or climbing.

Hmm I should think about guiding some snowshoe hikes. I know some really good trails just off OR224 that not many people know about and get quickly into the snow zone.
It's hard to think about winter and recreation, I usually just want to go sleep somewhere.
I skiied a couple times in Illinois, enuff to know I'm not very good at it. I'm naturally slow anyway so it all works out.

Hambone, I'd so be into a snowshoe trip -- fresh air, lovely snow, the peace and quiet, and no crashing! :drunken:

Let me know if anybody is planning on skiing in WA State. I'd be down for a few runs. I'm a two-planker though.

I might be up for a little snowshoeing. Another piece of gear that I've bought that mostly sits collecting dust in the closet. Used 'em a couple weeks ago though. The hike into Mirror Lake is nice when there's a good bit of snow on the ground.
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.
