VW Camper Family

A decent, potentially useful new website:
VW Camper Family
Ludwig--1974 Westfalia, 2.0L (GD035193), Solex 34PDSIT-2/3 carburetors.
Gertie--1971 Squareback, 1600cc with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection from a '72 (E brain).

Including me.

Static made up a nice little flyer that describes us, which I can't find now. Perhaps he will deign to post it someplace where we can all see it. Suffice it to say we're kid-friendly, dog-friendly, red-wine-friendly, oil-lantern-friendly and live-acoustic-music-friendly. We also have a Yahoo presence:

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/vwcamperfamily/

Wherein you wil find pictures of various campouts and such.

No more Yahoo VW Camper Family but ...

Post by JLT » Mon Jun 14, 2010 6:06 pm

The Yahoo "VW Camper Family" group has been closed down, but the group itself is alive, well, and growing. We've had camping events pretty regularly since late winter in north-central California (SF Bay and Sacramento, roughly).

Since you can't get Static's description of the group anymore, I'll sum it up briefly: we're friendly to kids, dogs, red wine, beer, acoustic music (preferably live) and kerosene lanterns. Most of us have a little gray hair. We're not show-oriented, but camping-oriented, which means that our buses are well used and usually show it. All species of VW box-shaped vehicles are welcome, from split-faces to Eurovans, and there is absolutely no caste system. (Hell, sometimes there isn't any system at all). As Static likes to say, we have no members, no dues, no officers, no administration, and precious little common sense.

Every once in a while, we actually show some foresight and reserve campground space months in advance, usually for camping in the high-demand season. But when we do, there's usually space for latecomers. Otherwise, we just use the web site for what pitiful coordination we exercise. Somebody announces where he or she is going, and other people generally show up. It seems to work somehow.

If you want to know more about us than you can suss out from the web site, there will be a few of us at Maupin. Look for my bus, and I'll point out some of the others to you.
