Train Spotting! June 12-14 VW Campout Plumas County

Post by Melissa » Thu Apr 30, 2009 11:52 am

Join volks for a weekend of train spotting and a soak in a hot spring June 12-14, 2009. Reserve a spot at Hallsted Campground in Plumas County, near the town of Twain on Highway 70. Enjoy the scenic drive along the Feather River Canyon, the waterfalls spilling out of the canyon hillsides and the sounds of trains passing through the night.

Nearby is Woody's Hot Spring, a mineral spring enjoyed by most folks in a natural state (clothing optional) and the Keddie WYE, where two train tracks merge into one before they pass into a tunnel under the mountain.

Two vehicles per site are allowed. The campground has water and toilets-no showers. There are some nearby areas for swimming and rafting but I am not sure where. The PCT is currently closed due to last year's Rich fire.

If that's a few thousand kilometers too far away, on the same weekend(actually people start drifting in sometime on the 11th) there is BusFusion:

It's on the Mississippi River (maybe not the one most people think of though) in the scenic town of Almonte Ontario Canada. There is swimming in the river, but it's not a hot spring...and I think the rules on clothing optional are "as long as you don't risk offending anyone" or something like that. So I guess that's out, at least during the daytime anyway.
We went last year and enjoyed it thoroughly.
