San Francisco Gathering?

Post by ruckman101 » Sun Nov 02, 2008 1:34 pm

Well I find myself in the Bay area this weekend, hitting Toronado Pub, 547 Haight at 7 pm tonight, Sunday, November 2. Would love to meet-up with area VW enthusiasts, Covello? et al?

I realize it's short notice, but a short trip with a very open itinerary so plans were made this morning.

Ah well.

Took Bart in and got off at Powell station thinking the Rogue Pub was right there, but it was actually 15 blocks off so we hoofed it, a route that took us straight through Chinatown apparently. Now that was a trip.

The Rogue was the Rogue, and Toronado rocked. Russian River brewery had the shining IPAs of the four or five sampled.

Ahem. While we do, in fact, greatly miss DJeep, there have been no shortage of Bay Area gatherings.

Agreed with Static - though they are not as spontaneous I'm sure... and you have to hang out with Static. It's OK though, Maggie makes up for him.

;)

Pick a day and I'll let you know if I can make it. I'll be in town for Thanksgiving.

I know there was some talk of camping during thanksgiving weekend, but considering it is unlikely, a simple hang out in golden gate park or ocean beach or elsewhere sounds like a good idea. It certainly lessens the time commitment of camping.

-P

and while I was there - excellent campout in the deluge of rain. Thanks everyone for letting me come home to that.

and while I'm at it... Oh? BAM! Ahhhh! I love the smell of victory.

Had quite a bit of fun at the airport on the way out.

Rushed Lush.....

They had too much fun with me, scanning my carry-on luggage at the airport,
"What's this? bottled beverages?"
"huh uh, Souvenier IPA's from Russian River Brewing."
Oh what to do, they cannot fly,
so trash?
Oh no!
Say it ain't so!
Another option.... take them outside, empty the contents and repack the
bottles.
So out I go, boarding pass,
license and bottles in tow,
to swig the two down
then rejoin the line.

But alas no bottle opener,
curses.... alternative openers.... none on the trash bins.... what's this?
a padlock hasp?
Ah perfect and pop the bottle top's off
First the "Blind Pig",
and guzzle I did, feeling naked,
on sidewalk watching arrives and departs,
swilling Blind Piggy hops in furtive guilt spree,
"Pliny's Elder" still in hand.

Ye gads here they come,
Airport Security on their rounds,
walk right on by, my handkerchief drying arms
and bottle of shaken brew spray,

Onto beer two. Pliney's Elder on the hoof
Damn fine beer, over palate to gullet

What must people think? walking
by as I drink, sucking it down
'til nothing left but foam,
time to return to the line boarding
pass and ID for the second time.

Empty bottles under arms and
security hesitates.... Ye Gads, not
strip search, oh dear.... descrepancie of spelling name
between pass and ID.... a check here and there
on this and that and whew, sign off.
Now onto the tubs. Two empty bottles and shoes
scoot right on through,
the same security folk
confirm ingestion rather than dumping and once
on the plane complimentary glass of Winterhook Ale,
served from 22 oz bottles............at least they had an opener.
