Saw an email from Gary on the WetWesties list last night that they drove it home to LaPine (south of Bend) with no leaks, drips or errors. Success, w00t!
A fricken miracle. That gasket was confetti. The cracked plastic h-pipe was a late-breaking development that had little time to cure, but the Diet Coke can and ultrablack and hose clamp did their thang. The cylinder head was razor-bladed down the middle to "scrape off some warp" in Itinerant Scissorhands parlance. . . Hal, your commemorative ZBlair Green Headliner Clothespin clamping-force-modification hack was instrumental in keeping me motivated. THANK YOU. I am very happy they responded to my request to allow the driver to get back in the saddle. He deserved another chance and I knew the Vanagon would agree.

Mark, your DeschuteRiverRendezVW is the best!

Thanks John, your hug following the song was what I needed. I intend to smile and sing the same song at his memorial service. Jerry was one of the finest men I've known...I hope I can keep myself together and pay him a happy tribute. Jerry went out with so much grace I can hardly describe what he's taught me. Hat's off Jerry, you were the cream of the crop and I'm damn proud to have been part of your family for 22 years. I can still out fish ya tho' :geek: RIP my brother. Again, John, Mike...your tearful hugs were exactly what I needed. I'm smiling now, and so is Jerry. Mark.

That was my first flash of inspiration on our trip, with the friction-tape-in-the-CIS-banjo-bolt-to-restrict-fuel-to-the-leaking-injector trick being the second. Every now and then I have a somewhat brilliant idea, but two in two days? Count me out for the rest of the year, I've hit my quota...

Back in my own garage at about 8PM Tuesday night. Safe, happy, tired.

More later, once I get the pix downloaded.

The short version: Incredible. I've had some amazing adventures in my life, but there's no way I could have more fun than the week just passed. Thank you!

Yes, it was great to see ya again! I love that awning idea of yours with the magnets and simple set up. Sunday was a beautiful day to drive wasn't it?

It was great to see all of you again. Condolences to you Mark.

What a time! Can't wait until next year.

My favorite parts were the music on Saturday night.. and watching my wife play backgammon with Ruckman, stealing Mark's beers, and slowly packing up on Sunday. Ruckman makes some mean salsa and mustard. Who knew?

p.s. Zane is the most hilarious person I've ever met.

On that last shot, the one with the falls out the window....

Is that sound insulation? Or heat insulation? :cherry:
