I just realized what you mean by this shot. Skeptic and Static, two mentors whose opinions and perspectives I have found to have impact and import, in a moment of accord.

I too had a phenominal time. Lots of Sun and community. It is really gaining a 'homecoming' type momentum.

good to meet bookwus, glasseye, whc03grady, satchmo
and see shawnhigh, flyawaydesigns, Static, amskeptic,

and of course great to spend time with my favorite hooligans- spiffy, Copilot, liveonJG, IFBWax, Deschutestrout, tristessa, gorak, ruckman101, and the respective families of all.

It's hard to tell by this photo but at that moment I was wishing that a black hole would form so that i could fall into it.

Lots o' sun, a beer tasting session, plenty of great food, and socializing had taken it's toll when this photo was taken (Sunday app 9:00 am).
So it all started when I wanted to get better gas mileage....

I would've gotten something happening eventually, but it probably wouldn't have been nearly as elegant or effective .. and by the time I got it working, Mary probably would've been really ticked off at me. :blackeye:

When the flash of inspiration hit -- to use a rolled-up bit of that friction tape inside the banjo bolt to merely *restrict* the flow of fuel to the leaking injector -- I was still holding onto the "how do I block fuel at 80PSI?" idea. If you & your tape hadn't been there I might not have thought of it...

The gods were indeed smiling.

Yeah Gypsie, you were looking a little sea sick on Sunday. Did you get feeling better before you left? Did the AFM adjustment make any difference?

felt much better after some water and food.

Temps down (but so was power) though I still had much more power than before the rebuild. I am still getting only 13-14 mpg (not optimal).

will do a compression test this weekend and recheck some other settings.

Thanks IFBWax and Spiffy for the AFM coaching. I finally put tool to component this weekend. I have been too nervous about making any adjustments to the inner workings, but have gained comfort level points after making the adjustment.

I was getting about the same mileage with our Vanagon. They are heavy, hungry beasts. You may get a bit better with the A/C motor but not terribly much more.

Hiya All,

Mark, you really do yourself proud. I can't even begin to tell you how impressed I was with your "production". Even the more so in light of your own trying circumstances.

I was glad to meet some of the avatars I've seen in action these past couple of years. Neal, I hope the parts work out for you. Willy, I'll be in touch. Glasseye, I hope you got one of me with my eyes open! LiveonJG, thanks for the welcome and the snap of the Duck! And IFBWax, when I got home I mentioned to my wife (our family news junky) that I had met you.

"What!" "You didn't tell me the news guys were going to be there."

"Well, actually, he's a VW guy who just happens to be a news guy."

"What!" "Did you tell him about Kelley Day?"

"Well..........yeah."

This conversation went on until I was able to escape into the bathroom.

And as if all this weren't enough, I was able to bring home a couple of gallons of Deschutes River with me. Don't ask.

All in all it was a great time. I'm up for next year.
I have cancer.

It does not have me.

Just unloaded Bertha. We dawdled another day lazy lounging in the bus reading. Sorry to hear the vacation got cut short Hal. Still some time, just draw up a new itinerary.

Bertha ran like a champ, despite not getting to timing and valve adjustments before heading out. Have an oil leak that seems to appear in fourth gear under load. First noticed it last fall on the run to Eureka. Lost over half a quart on this trip. Not good, not catastrophic, but need to look into it before it indeed becomes catastrophic. Tossing the tools into Gretchen and heading up to Amboy.

So much to say, still assimilating the weekend.

Oy, me too. I took a walk today and I was trying to process all the different conversations but it all seems like a blur. Apparently I was assimilated.

Hope that carb does something for Gretchen, are you planning on trying it out up at Amboy?

The priority is Gustav, Cheryle's Mercedes. But carb is already tucked into Gretchen for consideration. We managed to lure Colin up tomorrow. Time for me to learn a bit about dual carbs.

That's right, he had mentioned the 'cedes.

Dual carbs have me befuddled but I have never really messed with them.
