Nov 30 - Dec 2nd - Champoeg State Park - who's goin?

Post by deschutestrout » Tue Oct 30, 2007 8:31 pm

Hey...WetWesties are holding their annual Champoeg outing (about 30 minutes south of Portland, Oregon) Nov 30th weekend. Anyone planning on attending? Unless the weather over the mountain/thru the gorge totally craps, I'm planning on attending. Or, I'd be game to come up with our "own" gameplan for that weekend somewhere's else.

I'm planning on going.
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.

I'm not much of a big-crowd guy, but I would be into camping somewhere out in the desert, I've been hearing the call of the sage lately. Lemme know what you decide to do Mark since your tourista season should be over by now.

Big Conflict...

Just found out, that the Champoeg campout is the same weekend as the annual Holiday Ale Fest Downtown. So I think those of us who go to Champoeg, bring a sixer, or 12'er of our favorite holiday ale and we'll have our own "tasting" without the lines.

I'll bring Ebenezer!!!!!

Could someone give me the skinny on a wetwesties event? In case you hadn't noticed, I'm terribly anti-social. So the last thing I want is to be stuck with a bunch of "nice" people that, in turn, I would then have to be "nice" back to. (present company excluded, of course) I'm with Hambone, big crowds and me make a bad mix.

So what goes on with these wetwesties? Potlucks? Shuffleboard? Bocce ball?

What gives?

I've been to just a couple. They are really nice people. You don't really have to be nice to them. There is usually a do your own thing on Friday and a pot luck on SAturday.. very casual.. then a big fire at night. There are probably about 20 buses or so in the large RV spot.. which is next to a field, a meeting hall, and restrooms/showers.

No one gets on your case if you want to hole up in your bus.. or take a bike ride on the long paved roads at Champoeg. I think you pay about 10 bucks a night depending on turnout.

They are all VW people and as you know, most VW people are pretty cool.

Most times, I just hang out with the same core group anyway.. Jasan, Mark, etc. But having a few more folk around adds to the variety.

Last time, I wondered off at night and laid down on a picnic table in a deserted part of the campground.. and drank my beer and just kind of took in the scenery.

Yes, they are fun. And, there is no pressure to do anything. I'm still debating on this one....I'm camping that weekend for sure, but not sure if a group will assemble elsewhere, or all meet at Champoeg....decisions, decisions.....

O, jeez, yes. YES! I grew up in 150 inches of rain a year. I love sage.

How about, say somewheres along Catlow Rim, 'way down south below Maleur Lake?

Oh, wait. I gotta get some new tires first. :cyclopsani:
