Methinks I will have the fam along for this one. We may be leaving as the sun rises Saturday morning. I can get you the chainsaw (with a full tank of gas) since you will be out there 'afore I. Is this near Hambone Butte? 224 to 57 to 58 to Abbott Rd.(in a NW direction) App 18 miles off of 224?

That's the one. The turnoff for the dirt Abbot Road is a bit vague but there is an obscure sign there. I'm still gonna git ya a FS map, they're quite useful especially in the field.
I DO have some nice fun guys lyin around...but maybe they'd be better suited for a later trip? Erin is still drastically on the fence about going, she's concerned about the remoteness of the place and the concentration of critters. I told her with yer musical aneqdotes there won't be a critter within 10 miles.
I'd rather see you on Friday of course but I totally understand what u gotta do. Are you SURE you don't have a cold coming on (COUGH!!!)??
Keep us posted.
Here's the Terraserver closeup of the area for comparison:

Lora is one cool chick I'm glad she's going. I think her and Erin would really get along. Erin is still undecided. Teri (my daughter) is going for sure.
I MAY leave Thursday nite if I can get away with it. Or really early Friday since I have the day off. Would you feel comfortable meeting me up there? It's really not that far, I used 1/4 tank o' gas getting there last time. The Abbot Road is rough and narrow but you've been to many such places in yer day!
Hey how is yer bus? You get your pushrods yet? Sorry I missed ya yesterday at the Lab.

Yeah, we can meet you guys up there. I'll have to dig out the map and figure out exactly where the turnoff is. Is there a primitive campground up there or is it just a wide spot in the road? I'm hoping that I can be out of town by 2:30. That should put us up there at around 3:30-4:00 right? I think Erin and Lora would get along great.
Still haven't got my push rods. Every time I call to check if they're done he says he'll try and get them done the next day. I think it's time to find another machine shop. The old engine is still purring right along though. This past weekend going into Badger Lake was the first time I felt that it might be getting a little tired but that was at 5000ft where it's always a dog from the mixture being rich at altitude. I came home and reset the timing and leaned it out very slightly and that seemed to help get my pep back.
I almost made it to the Lab last night but working the 5:30-2:00 shift is kicking my butt. 4:00am comes damn early when you don't get to bed 'till 11:00.

Part of my sitch lies in the fact that my sweetie can only handle one night at a time in the van. She has a healing back. I am calling for a 4:00 am wake up with a 5:30 departure. We'll see how it goes
Lori and Lily would love to see Erin and Eva.
Gonna try to get my camping S _ _ T together for this trip.
It's not that there are no critters for 10 miles, they just get lulled into reverie and it takes some time to come out of it.

Smooth crooning I know. Only the owls can contribute.
Hambone Springs Camp is the same vintage as Lookout Springs and Twin Springs (along the same road even). It's been abandoned since the 70s, and is surprisingly clean.
FS 58 (it's open, ignore any "road closed" signs, they just fixed the bridge)
4610 to a high point and an awesome view of Mt. Hood, then you should see the Abbot road off to your left thru some forest. Reminds me of the Barlow Road.
There's a 2nd growth lodgepole pine forest before the ridgetop, that will tell you that Abbot is close. You'll find the camp, no problem. The springs are down a 1/4 mile trail from the camp.
I'll bet that road has been cleared, it's already July.

4610 IS the Abbot Road. I think it's signed both ways.
Can you believe this weather?!?! It's supposed to rain Friday too. It's rained every one of our campouts except Badger Creek.

Nope you've not met her. We're old friends. She was my roommate for several years.spiffy wrote:Lora?

C'mon, give me the gossip, I'm bored
Ah, gotcha. I haven't heard the latest on the weather. Is it suppose to be crappy all weekend? Actually if it's as humid up there as it is down here it wouldn't be so bad. 70° with 90% humidity feels pretty damn warm.hambone wrote:4610 IS the Abbot Road. I think it's signed both ways.

gonna be drizzly if not outright raining. rain gear and warm clothes for everybody. Might have to swap out some sippin whiskey for some of the beers.
I think you may be on to something. When we went to Silver falls. Wilson was there and no rain??? Though Wilson was there at the camp in the clouds.
I am trying to power through a summer cold right now. from the nose to the chest and now I am a big bundle of coughing fits.
