I am thinking about the Hennepin Canal Park:

Where at along the canal? I've camped at a few of the locations back in my Boy Scout days.

Starved Rock is pretty nice as well, but tends to get crowded.

Or, in a completely different direction, Turkey Run State Park in Indiana?

Are you coming Bartoli? I'm trying to find out who's coming and find something centrally located.

My wife is from Indiana and has mentioned Turkey Run. I was just at starved rock and it was mega busy.

I was kind of thinking if we did the canal we could make it a rolling campout, each day caravaning to a new campsite.

I guess this weekend, I'll send out some PM's and try and get a handle on who can make it, then decide.

All, feel free to weigh in.

I don't know if it's been discussed yet but it looks like Hennepin is one of the IL state parks scheduled to close November 1st.

It's off topic but I have no love for Illinois politics. It's great we've eliminated so much financial waste that our only option to cut the budget is to close state parks. OK, back on topic...

I should be able to make it for at least one of the nights around 9/19-9/21. I'm still working on the schedule with my son and my bus should be ready by then. I'm open to any of the spots mentioned so far.
1978 VW Campmobile (P-21) Westfalia - T2 2.0L F.I.- 151,000m
1982 Mercedes-Benz Estate Wagon (300TD-T) - S123 3.0L T.D. - 142,000m
1993 Dodge Maxi Van (190 SLF) InterVec Falcon - B350 Magnum 5.9L F.I. - 70,000m

That sucks. Let's make Illinois suck more, high taxes, close the parks.

Well maybe we should visit while we can. I love the old canals.

Starved Rock has become more and more busy over time as more folks from the Chicago area learn about it...

I live about an hour east of VWbusrepairman... south central Indiana at it's best. I'd be interested in your campout... or at least the schedule for it to see what's up.

You might be thinking MattG with the new job. I'm booked up with previous engagements until the end of October and I've still got to get the tent in and clutch taken care of. Realistically I'm planning a debut at the Bugfest in June.

I will check out the new thread - I used to surf the web everyday at work but the new job is keeping me way to busy.
I'm all out of ideas and I've tried nothing.

New job is good - it is a real job again after punching the clock for the past 5 years. Once I have things in place it should be pretty sweet. All I keep hearing is the 1st year is the hardest. I am trying to keep my head above water - it doesnt help that the greenhouse tech is on maternity leave or the greenhouse computer is possessed - at least that is fixed now.
