Re: Kadron Carb Manifold to Head Gaskets
Carbureted engines want heat pumped directly to the manifolds to help keep the gas vapor vaporized below the carbs. The factory carbs use thin aluminum gaskets between the cast iron manifolds and heads, but then use phenolic spacers between the manifolds and carburetors to limit that very same useful heat from getting to the carburetor where it would cause hot percolation flooding.chachi wrote:Why should I not use FI "riser" gaskets as manifold to head gaskets for my kadrons?
Unfortunately, aftermarket manifolds are not very precision milled, so leaks aplenty have been reported with the factory gaskets. Then people put on those goopy soggy paper gaskets. If you can sand your manifolds on a piece of thick glass with 320 grit emery cloth (clean the heck out of them when you're done), you could try the factory aluminum gaskets and get better driveability on cool damp days, like every day in Portland whenever I am visiting.
Those factory engineers had it figured out.

Re: Kadron Carb Manifold to Head Gaskets
Any 1700/1800 engine overhaul gasket set has them. They look close to the exhaust gaskets on Type 1 engines, but they are just a single small stamped piece. Some of our Type 4 engine overhaul graduate members here may have some in their spare gasket set detritus bags.chachi wrote:this problem went to bill trafton and he ended up using aluminum with some sort of gasket sealant. the kadrons, despite bill's repeated efforts, are still not delivering the power we both think they should but at least they don't have a gaping vacuum leak as with my hand cut paper gaskets.
do you or anyone have a link to these aluminum gaskets? i didn't see them before they went in and it'd be handy to have a visual on them.
