More like Super Glue. I think I will be ok just by looking at your picture, and with the current setup.

Thanks man. I seen'ed it too late though, picked up a greasy nasty one at the Woodburn VW show yesterday for $5 but it looks intact. Hopefully the thermostat still works. Can you visually see if it does? Are the thermostats still available?

I may use the filter part from my current oil bath since it's already clean.

Hiya Bob,

You picked up a 71 Bus air filter?

If so, the smart money would be on the thermostat NOT working. That is the case with these guys in almost all cases. You can try dipping the thermostat in hot water. Keep the plunger rod end out of the water. If it's good you'll get a rise outta the rod.

Gypsie and I briefly discussed the possibility of renewing one of these guys by finding the right sort of wax and replacing it. I wonder if the thermostat I found for him turned out to be a worker - probably not.

If it turns out that you need to buy one, they are NLA new. You'll have to go used. TS classifieds would be a good route for that search. Expect a good one to fetch a pretty penny (or two!)
