Fuel Line Parts List

Post by misszora » Fri Jun 06, 2008 8:21 am

Hello all,

I'm going shopping for parts today. Miss Zora's engine will be coming out soon and I want to get in there and replace old hoses and stuff.

I am using the German Supply Fuel Line Kit diagram for a '77 FI Bus.
So right now, my question is this:

Screw clamps or crimp clamps (as suggested)?
note: I don't have a crimp clamp tool.

thanks!
paige

p.s. I'm sure there will me more and more questions as the days go by and as the parts box fills.

Let me know if you need any (free) FI parts, I have a full compliment of injectors and some other goodies should you need anything.

Thanks! I am in "exploration" mode right now. I'm not sure what it is exactly that I will need. I was very excited to find the fuel line diagram so I'd know how many pieces and feet I'd need for that part of the project.

Hey Colin, what would be good "just in case" parts to have for the FI if I didn't know what I was looking for (or AT for that matter)?

so you're saying colin, that even though a '77 came from the factory with mostly crimp-type clamps, you think they should use screw clamps instead?

in my opinion the crimp clamps cannot be improved upon. on installs we do in our shop i use crimp clamps everywhere except where the clamps need to be removed, for instance on the fuel filter and in a few spots where you'd remove the clamp to pull the engine.

now that the completely exact original screw clamps:

are NLA, the crimp type are an even better bet. i have probably installed more FI hose replacement kits than just anyone anywhere and the these clamps:

http://germansupply.com/xcart/customer/ ... ctid=17370

work better than anything else. better than any screw clamp, no matter the style or construction. the fact that they have to cut off to be removed doesn't sway me away from them, simply because they work better. i have nothing to gain from saying any of this, we sell lots of fuel line kits and we supply kits that are as close to original equipment as possible. on 78-79 bus we use mostly screw clamps because that is how they come originally. i have no idea why VW changed to screw clamps from the crimp type but i will tell you with no uncertainty that the crimped style are the best to use. the ones in our kits are even better than the original VW ones because of the inner shield they have.

Dang! Sorry I missed this post. The screw clamps are on their way.
Thanks for the linkage too!
