VW Fuel Injection

Post by twinfalls » Wed Jan 16, 2008 1:41 pm

As you know:
I own a carbed 74 bus and a fuel injected 1985 Golf GTI 1.8 8 valves.
I am discovering VW injection because my Golf doesnt start.
I had all wrong ideas about FI.
The Golf has K-jetronic injection.
What about VW buses with FI versus VW K-jectronic on Golf GTI type 1 and type 2 ?
The K-jettronic is far from computurized stuff/crap.
I understand, my 1800cc GTI engine needs no brainish computer.
Air metering is mechanical.
Fuel amont from air metering is mechanical.
Sure there are few sensors, but nothing as scary as a centralized brain.
Well
I just discover the K-tronic, because it gives me a first trouble after 23 years of perfect service.
I want I want I want to keep my Golf, it is easy to maintain easy to maintain..
I am 95% sure, it only has some dirt from cheap gazoline dealers.

Fi guys, can you help me ?

I find both the K-Jetronic (continuous injection) and the L-Jetronic are easy enough to work on.

Your first order of business is to establish if you are getting fuel pump operation. Remove the big boot over the sensor plate, turn on the ignition (listen for a brief fuel pump prime), and lift the sensor plate. You should feel a light vibration at the plate and the noise of the fuel pump. K-Jetronic suffers the same dumb stuff as L-Jetronic as far as grounds and relays not inserted securely.

Thanks.
I'll go to her with start pilot.
She better confirm: Ignition good, fuel Kaputt.
Then, I'll go at the "cold start injector" or the "air metering sensor plate".
I expect a No fuel.
Then, I'll have fun to locate why.

I do ear the fuel pump running ( A buzzing noise for 2 seconds after a cranking attempt ).
I smell no gas.
May be, I have no gas, with a gauge showing 1/4 ).
I mostly need some nice wheather outdoors.
