Dry as a bone

Post by jeromeaircooled » Sat Jul 07, 2007 12:08 am

Trying to get my 74 beetle dual port running. The car sat for 6 years without cranking over until today. It is not starting althouth I am very close. I have isolated the problem to fuel. I have the filter by the tranny and it is dry as is the carb. I am thinking that this is one of two problems. Either the fuel pump is crap or the metal line between the tank and the engine is plugged. I am leaning toward the fuel pump. Thoughts? Does the fuel pump actually suck the gas from the tank or does it run from the tank to the engine via gravity like a bus ? All other fuel lines have been replaced.

Pull the fuel line from the fuel pump that comes from the tank. It should drain out on it's own without a pump. I think the lines plug up more often than the pumps going bad.
