71 deluxe trim cleaning?

Post by JereandJess » Sat Nov 18, 2006 12:59 pm

I just found a 71 deluxe in the woods near here that had almost all the trim on it. I have pulled it off, but it has been sitting in the woods for probably 10 years at least!

What's the best way to clean the trim without harming it?

Anyone have a good cleanser to use?

Thanks!
Jeremy

3M polishing compound. That aluminum is anodized. Follow with wax.
If it is too far gone, there are outfits that can professionally re-anodize, but it might be pricy. Ask bookwus (theSamba if not here) what he did with his.

In the past I've sprayed clear paint over the oxidization and it made it shiny new. Try it at least....

How long did the clearcoat last? I have had such bad results with Duplicolor lately. How's the rain?

The rain is prevalent! Liquid sunshine.
I painted the trim in such a fashion many years ago on a Beetle I had. It lasted thru 2 Chicago years and held up fine. Not sure of long term though. It really made the trim shiny tho. I tried it as a last ditch effort.
