Sliding door handle problem

Post by foxtail » Sun Jan 04, 2009 5:48 pm

I have a 71 and I can not get the outside door handle off.
I took off the inside handle.
Shot it with PB Blaster.
Wiggled the outside handle while beating gentle...Of course and it still will not come out. I need to rekey it.

Note the locking lever will not lock the door and it does move some.

How much time has the PB Blaster had to penetrate? Try installing a screw where the inside door handle is normally fastened, and tap to set up vibrations that will help the PB Blaster. Then after 24 hours, tap again to see if it will come out.

wrong handle Colin. How many screws did you remove from the outside handle? There are 2 allen wrench screws holding the handle on a '77. Your handle may have a tab and slot thing going on as well.
