Reinstalling the Sliding Door

Post by LiveonJG » Tue May 22, 2007 9:23 pm

Long story short.

Saturday we are at a party and meet a couple (very cute lesbians, nice!) who own a bus. 74 Westy, bought on a whim. We get to talking, do a bus tour and they mention they are having trouble with their sliding door and how nice mine is working. Sure enough, then and there, my door starts acting up. I feel up in the runner and pull out a nylon bushing that appears to have broken free. I know there is a 76 Transporter at a local yard so I swing by there yesterday, Monday, and get all the rear slider parts. I notice there's no nylon piece but do see a spot where it would fit.

Cut to today.

I remove the outside runner cover. And ... the whole sliding door falls off. I now have a pretty good handle on door removal. :geek:

Anyway, if anyone has any trick for reinstallation above and beyond that in the Bentley, I'd love to hear it.

<edit>I almost forgot, I managed to get the nylon bushing back on the parts bus donor slider as mind broke in half during my first attempt at reinstall.</edit>

Thanks in advance,
-John

Hard to beat a ratwell post, but if another point of view on the sliding track section could help, you can see what I went through with mine. http://calivw78.com/wordpress/2007/03/1 ... -hardware/

I got it back on yesterday (Friday) after work. After finding an appropriate height support, I was able to drop it right in. Oiled and greased it works better than ever.
Thanks for the responses.
